Alhaji Muhammadu Kabir Maikarfi 111, was the sixth Maigari of Lokoja, son of late Alhaji Yahaya Muhammadu Maikarfi, Grandson to Muhammad Maikarfi the first, was born in Lokoja , in 1943, 11 years before his revered father Alhaji Yahaya Muhammadu Maikarfi ascended the throne, He the few members of the royal fam that received formal western Education. Kabict started his education according to the old tradition of Lokoja, with Quranic /Arabic studies at Very early age, On completion of this compulsory vocation, he attended Kabawa Native Authority (NA) Elementary Primary School and later proceeded to the famous Holy Trinity School Lokoja, where he acquired a thirst of knowledge Which propelled him to want to read hard and go for various courses that Were to prepare him for life service to the community and God.
From Holy Trinity School Lokoja, young Kabir proceeded to Clerical Training Centre Sokoto. However, as if destined to administer people all his lite, Alhaji Kabir was appointed District Scribe, Lokoja subordinate Native Authority in 1960, and was in that capacity for ten (10) years. Indeed, by 1961 he was selected to attend the District, Scribe course at the Institute of Administration (A.B.U) Zaria, Next, Alhaji Kabir was among the first set of students from the six Northern States
who attended the Extended Stage 2 Local Government Course in Financial Management and Local Government Administration.
Subsequently, he was again selected to attend the National Certificate Course in Local Government Administration and Accounting at the College of Administrative and Business Studies Kaduna Polytechnic. Having completed this course, Alhaji Kabir went further for his National Diploma in Financial Management/Local Government Administration again at CABS (Kaduna Poly).
His working experience started with a stint as Primary School Teacher in 1959 after which he was appointed District Scribe Lokoja subordinate N.A. as earlier mentioned in 1960, during which time, in 1963, he was asked to conduct the census in Kakanda District.
Due to his meticulous approach to duty, in 1970, he became the Council Secretary
to Kogi Local Government Council until 1975 when he moved to the Social Services
Department as Secretary, and then department of Finance and Agriculture from 1977-
1983. With the setting up of the political bureau by the Federal Military Government,
Alhaji Kabir (Who by now had risen from (Higher Executive Officer to Principal Executive Officer) was appointed the Assistant Monitoring Officer, Political Bureau kogi Local Government (1984 to 1985), in which position he traversed all the towns and villages of Kogi Local Government organising public forum for discussions and submission of Memoranda, and mobilising the people for political awareness. Because of his transparent honesty, he was also appointed Chairman to various investigation panels of Kogi Local Government. it was therefore not surprising that Alhaji Kabir was appointed the Electorial Officer for Kogi Local Government in 1986, from where because of his achievement in conducting successful, hitch-free elections, he was appointed Electoral Officer to re-conduct the canceled Ilorin Local Government Election in 1989.
Because of his sterling qualities, he was sought after to head Electoral ‘duties in various parts of the state,with Ifelodun Local
Government,Kwara state,being his last Electoral assignment.
Due to the failing health of his father (Alhaji Yahaya Muhammadu Maikartfi 11, late Maigari of Lokoja) he had to come back home to take care of him, and he was appointed Head of department of Medical and health/Administration Kogi Local Government with the designation of Chief Personnel Assistant in 1989. He took great care of his father and received the Royal blessing of his father who passed away peacefully on 31st March, 1992. On 1st May 1992 Alhaji Kabir was appointed Maigari Lokoja to succeed his late _,
father, being the unanimously choice of the three (3) ruling houses in Lokoja. His love for Lokoja knew no bounds, being and active member of the various organisations and always of assistance of Sons and daughters Of Lokoja and environs and his ability to mix freely made him acceptable not only to the indigenes but also the other non-indigene inhabitants of Lokoja. His Royal Highness late Alhaji(Dr) Muhammadu Kabir Maikarfi 111,is slow to anger but swift to chide, a fine gentlemen, educated and learned both in western and Islamic systems, a born leader and a successful administrator of men, loving loyal and likeable, the delight of Lokojans, young and old.
Lokoja is the most unique town in Nigeria with a long tradition (from the founding fathers) of peaceful co-existence and cooperation between the christians and Muslims, a tradition which has been followed by the grandfather and father (past Maigari’s) of late Alhaji Muhammadu Kabir Maikarfi and which has promoted unity and progress in the town.
Alhaji Kabir’s father, Maigari Alhaji Yahaya Muhammadu Maikarfi 11,had the singular fortune of reigning for thirty-seven (37} years and re-establishing the glory of Lokoja as a 2nd class and then 1st class chieftaincy, and witnessing the transformation of Lokoja into a State Capital Having closely studies his father and imbibed his qualities.
His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Muhammadu Kabiru Maikarfi 111, died on Wednesday , 29 of September 2022 after a brief illness in a private hospital in Abuja
He was survived by two wives and many Children, among who is the present Successor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi 1V,who was coronated on the 6th of January 2024.
